It is a bit of a tradition in our family to go for a walk on Mother’s Day and collect seed. We did this last year and used the seed as a decorative element in our home.
As I mentioned when discussing the technique last year this method of collecting seed for display (and incidental drying) and then throwing them in a pot and seeing what grows is haphazard to say the least. Nevertheless we did manage to grow six oak trees of unknown variety and two Indian Runner Bean Trees. This Mother’s Day we planted the oaks on our block in Bridgetown. The first oak tree we grew using this method is now nine years old and about 3m tall.
We did go for a walk at the Golden Valley Tree Park in Balingup again this year and collected some new seed. Each different season brings it’s own surprises and there were different trees with seed pods this year so who knows what excitement next year will bring?
